Culture of taking responsibility

International schools need to develop and teach a ‘culture of taking responsibility’ rather than directly or indirectly supporting a ‘culture of seeking to blame’ or a ‘culture of mistrust’.

  • Culture of taking responsibility – The person responsible is in the mirror.
  • Culture of seeking to blame – “It’s not my fault! I am not responsible. X is to blame because of Y”.
  • Culture of mistrust – We do not trust you to make good decisions. You must follow our rules and consequences.

My view:

Rule #1: “Make good decisions!” (There are no other rules….)
